Balancing the Budget

The Socorro ISD faces a $22 million deficit for the 2024-2025 school year that threatens the district’s ability to provide opportunities and resources to students, faculty, and staff. I will advocate for a transparent budgeting process that prioritizes high-quality education and staff support while minimizing wasteful spending. By working with partners, pursuing grant opportunities, and working alongside our community, we can relieve the burden on local taxpayers while maintaining the high-quality education our children deserve.

Competing with Charter Schools

Charter schools have continued to draw enrollment, but the fact of the matter is that public education remains the cornerstone of our community. I will work to ensure that Socorro ISD remains the choice for families by championing investments that enhance dual-credit opportunities, accelerate STEAM initiatives, and develop robust extracurriculars. By highlighting the value of public education and supporting our teachers, we can regain the trust of our community and strengthen our district.

Ethics

I am committed to ensuring transparency, accountability, and integrity is core to the work the Socorro ISD Board of Trustees does. I will always push that our Board and District abides by high ethics, adequate public oversight, and a culture that will always put our students, faculty, and staff above politics and personal gain.

Infrastructure

Our students need facilities that meet their needs and provide them with safe, accessible spaces for learning. I will support investments in upgrading outdated infrastructure, ensuring that all students, regardless of their zip code, have access to safe, and well-equipped campuses. Additionally, I will advocate for energy-efficient solutions that reduce costs and environmental impact, reinvesting savings into classrooms and programs.

Juvenile Justice

Schools play a critical role in preventing juvenile justice involvement. I will advocate for restorative justice practices that address discipline incidents constructively, keeping students in school and on track for success. By collaborating with law enforcement, counselors, and community organizations, we can support and create programs that focus on rehabilitation and support rather than punishment, helping students turn challenges into opportunities.

Mental Health

Mental health is vital to student success and well-being. I am committed to working with our team to find creative, innovative, and trauma-informed programs that provide students access to mental health professionals and peer support. By fostering and strengthening partnerships with local organizations and securing additional funding, we can ensure that every student has the support they need to thrive academically and personally.

School Safety

Every student deserves to feel safe at school. I will advocate for comprehensive safety measures, including stronger community partnerships with the Socorro ISD Police Department, regular safety drills, and adequate equipment to respond to incidents as they arise. At the same time, I will ensure that these measures foster a supportive and inclusive environment rather than creating a culture of fear. Preventative approaches, like anti-bullying programs and conflict resolution training, will also be a priority.

SISD's Workforce

Our teachers, support staff, and administrators are the backbone of our district. It is no secret the challenges SISD has faced have had a direct impact on the investment of its workforce. I am prepared to face these challenges to once again give the district the ability to invest in its employees. Additionally, I am committed to creating a culture of respect and support, ensuring that educators feel valued and equipped to meet the needs of our students.
